It’s February, and love is in the air, but here at Manolo Salons, love is in the hair! It’s the perfect month to give your hair care habits – and your entire beauty routine, at that – a little TLC. With these hand-picked, expert beauty tips from International Image Consultant Manolo Colmenero, you will fall in love with your hair, skin and, most importantly, yourself:
1. Get a great hairstyle.
What better way to get ready for that Valentine’s date than with a flattering haircut and style that works with your hair type and complements your face shape? When you’re looking for a new hairstyle to try, your hair texture, features and face shape should all factor into your decision, and a professional stylist can help individually tailor your look to suit your lifestyle. A good hair stylist will know how cut your hair to enhance or conceal certain facial features. Beyond improving your overall outside appearance, a great hairstyle can help you kick start your new beauty routine with newfound confidence.
2. Hold off on the heat.
Give your tresses some TLC by giving hair a rest from heat styling tools and products every once in a while. Overusing and misusing heat styling tools is the most common cause of dryness and breakage, so let your hair air dry instead of blow drying on some days and you’ll be on your way to healthier-looking hair. When you do use heat styling tools, always apply a significant amount of heat protecting hair care product or cream.
3. Clean makeup brushes.
Makeup brushes are an important part of your beauty routine, and they require care to stay clean. Brushes full of dirt and grime can clog pores and cause breakouts, so clean your brushes weekly to rid them of lingering bacteria. If you notice that they are shedding, are misshapen or you are having acne breakouts, it is probably time to replace your brushes.
4. Care for your color.
Having a professional colorist dye your hair is worth every penny of the expense. Protect and prolong your hair color by investing in quality products that are specially formulated for highlighted or color-treated hair, such as the Teknia Color Stay range of products from Lakmé USA, which protects color-treated hair from the harmful effects of the sun and prevents loss of color. Applying the Color Stay Treatment or a similar nourishing mask weekly can also boost radiance and add life back to your locks.
5. Don’t sleep with your makeup on.
How many times have we been told just how bad it is for our skin to sleep without taking off the day’s makeup? Yet we still do it, and there’s nothing romantic about this bad habit! If you have a tendency to head straight to bed at the end of a day, try keeping a pack of cleansing wipes in your nightstand drawers. It doesn’t get any easier than washing your face in bed.
6. Always wear sunscreen.
One of the most important daily skincare habits to adopt is wearing sunscreen, regardless of the weather. Vow to always apply sunscreen on your face, neck and hands. These areas show signs of aging the fastest, so don’t let the UV rays of the sun snatch away your youthful glow. Try Douceur De Vie face cream with SPF 15 from Guinot. In addition to the many moisturizers that contain SPF, there are also many makeup products – like foundations, powders and lip glosses- that offer protection from damaging rays as well.
7. Don’t forget your feet.
This time of year, our feet spend a lot of time in closed-toe shoes, and it’s easy to neglect their care. But the feet are perhaps the most overstressed part of the body. Give your feet some love! Regular spa pedicures are a relaxing way to be better to your feet, and there are many health benefits too. Try a relaxing, lavender exfoliating treatment for feet or a soothing fresh cucumber pedicure.
At Manolo Salons, we encourage our clients to follow a healthy beauty routine that will make you fall in love with your hair and skin. We offer a full array of hair styling and image consulting services that will make getting your perfect Valentine’s look as easy as making an appointment.
